Komenský and Janáček?
The culmination of the editorial and hymnographic activities of Jan Amos Komenský (1592-1670) is the 1659 canon, also known as the Amsterdam Canon, a testament to the high Protestant culture of the Czech Baroque. The songs found here suggest that the ever-present task is (to use J. A. K.'s phrase) 'not to reproduce paper, but wisdom'.
In September 1865, Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) became a member of the Augustinian community in Old Brno. Pavel Křížkovský solidified the foundations of his musical education here and the young boy gained valuable experience in spiritual and secular productions of the Fundatists - the so-called bluebirds. As a mature composer he was graduated as the first honorary doctor of Masaryk University on 28 January 1925.
